Farok Sharif
President
and General Manager

Farok Sharif is the president and general manager of Washington TRU Solutions (WTS), which manages and operates the U.S. Department of Energy's Waste Isolation Pilot Plant near Carlsbad, New Mexico. He is responsible for ensuring that all WIPP operations are performed in a safe, secure and cost-effective manner in strict compliance with environmental regulations. He also provides executive oversight for other WTS work performed in support of the DOE National TRU Waste Program (NTP) mission, which includes waste characterization, certification and transportation.

Sharif has more than 17 years of experience in the nuclear waste management field. His key accomplishments include leading the development of the highly successful NTP Central Characterization Project, helping WIPP ramp up from 1-2 waste shipments processed a week to more than 30 per week, and helping to establish and sustain a world-class safety record at WIPP.

Sharif was previously the deputy general manager.  He has held several key management posts at WIPP and was the TRU waste program manager at the West Valley Demonstration Project in New York. He has also served as a project manager for Westinghouse Engineered Products Department, a shipping container manufacturer in Carlsbad.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in operations research and an MBA from New Mexico State University.
